Polyethylene
This is a very widely used plastic, for both domestic and industrial applications. It is fully recyclable in most formats, some popular uses are; toys, crates, containers, milk bottles, pallets and drainage pipes. There is also HDPE High Molecular (HM) this is mainly used for the manufacturing of drums and containers, to hold liquids such as oil, chemicals and food additives etc. The plastic itself is also fully recyclable, but this can only take place once nocuous or hazardous substance has been removed.
MDPE (medium denstity polyethylene) this is a very popular material with a wide range of uses. The material is extensively used in it extrusion grade for the manufacture of plastic gas and water pipes. It is also used in its rotomold form in the production of wheelie bins and large storage tanks for fuel and oil in both domestic and commercial fields.
LPDE (low density polyethylene) this material is used both domestically and commercially. It is fully recyclable. Popular applications include polyethylene bags (bin liners, sandwich bags, carrier bags, etc.). It is widely used in the manufacture of food containers, with special grades being developed for flexible re-sealable lids. LLDPE (linear low density polyethylene) the main applications for this material is extrusion grade, for the manufacture of cling film and shrink wrap in the packageing industry. This product is fully recyclable however contaimination with other materials can often be an issue when recycling.
